Haygrove School celebrates students with awards evening
We welcomed last year’s Year 11s back to school for a very special GCSE Awards Evening to celebrate their landmark success from last academic year. The students’ hard work and determination meant Haygrove School secured the top GCSE results in Somerset for students receiving a Grade 4 and above and also a Grade 5 and above in both English and Maths, an exceptional achievement.
The GCSE Awards Evening provided an excellent way to recognise the students’ successes in every subject. Special awards were also given to students in the following categories:
• Academic Performance Award – Amelie H and Theoni K
• Contribution to School Life Award – Evie C
• Outstanding Effort Award – Lilly N and Emily B
• Resilience in Learning Award – Sienna B
• Duke of Edinburgh Award – Rhys B
• Contribution to Sport Award – Charley W
• Creativity Award – Matilda G
Mr Reid, Headteacher, said, “This is a very special group of young people who showed a real determination to succeed. The Awards Evening had such a fantastic turnout and was a real celebration. Whilst academic results are an important building block for our students’ futures, I am also proud of the people they have become. We place a big significance on character development and learning to use these values in everyday life. I truly believe this cohort of students have so much to offer our Bridgwater community and they will continue to contribute positively wherever their futures take them.”
Haygrove School’s 2023 GCSE results were:
• 83% of students gained a STANDARD PASS at grade 4 or above in both GCSE English (Language or Literature) and GCSE Mathematics.
• 62% achieved a grade 5 and above in Maths and English (Strong pass)
• 84% - Grade 4-9 in English (69% gained grade 5 or above)
• 89% - Grade 4-9 in Maths (71% gained grade 5 or above)

Ms Mills, Deputy Head, says, “These students worked really hard and deserve recognition and celebration. They were so dedicated to their studies and their committed attendance to additional revision sessions before and after school really paid off and made a big difference for them. A huge thank you must go to their Head of Year Mrs Hardman, our teachers and staff who supported our students so well. It was a wonderful awards evening – we love welcoming former students back to school and keeping in touch with how they are getting on.”
Chrysta Garnett, CEO of the Quantock Education Trust, says, “These fantastic results are the culmination of hard work, determination and excellent teachers delivering a well-designed curriculum. Our students and staff are the heart of Haygrove and I am especially proud during times of celebrations like this to reflect on everyone’s achievements. Congratulations to all our former Year 11s and best of luck with your next adventures.”
