Mrs L MillsInterim Headteacher
Mrs L Mills
Mrs Mills is our Deputy Headteacher. After leaving college she went to work in a successful packaging company in her local area and worked in their main offices experiencing a range of different roles. Mrs Mills later went to work for a consultancy firm in London and spent a few years developing her ICT knowledge and later became an analyst for their Hotel & Leisure division. After spending a year travelling she decided to chase her dream of becoming a teacher. So as a mature student, she went to the University of Brighton and embarked on a four year BA Hons degree in Primary and Secondary education with ICT.
Mrs Mills began her teaching career in a large city comprehensive in Brighton in September 2006, teaching ICT. During her time there she was a School Governor and had the opportunity to be co-opted onto their senior leadership team. She left in 2013 to relocate to Somerset. Mrs Mills started at Haygrove School in September 2013 as a teacher of ICT and Business Studies. Her time in industry allowed her to share knowledge and skills through the Business Studies course and in turn achieve fantastic results year on year. She has also been given opportunities to be a Head of Year, co-opted onto SLT and is now a Deputy Head within the School, primarily looking at raising standards at KS4.
Mrs Mills has two rescue spaniel dogs which keep her occupied and on her toes! She says, "It is a great way to unwind; being forced out to walk in all weathers is a blessing in disguise!" Mrs Mills also likes to travel and explore new places, whether it is a city break or spending time to travel around a country. Even though she has been in Somerset for over six years, she still feels like a tourist and likes to explore the local area. -

Mrs M HoareHead of Drama (Maternity cover)
Mrs M Hoare
Miss Joseph is our Head of Drama. She began her career at the University of Chester where she was awarded a first-class joint honours degree before going on to study Drama and Theatre Studies and Performance and New Media. Miss Joseph says "The course was a brilliant combination of historical and contemporary theatre and I take the breadth and depth of drama it taught me into my classroom today." Miss Joseph wasn’t sure what career she wanted to pursue and after working in and traveling parts of Canada she returned to her secondary school to complete some work experience. It was there Miss Joseph was very fortunate to experience her ‘penny dropping’ moment, and says it was evident that teaching was where she wanted to be and has greatly enjoyed it ever since. Miss Joseph says, "Being a teacher of drama is simply fantastic; I witness creativity strike, imaginations run, communication skills build, confidence grow and then help guide students to diverse meaningful, engaging and disciplined pieces of drama."
Miss Joseph has been teaching for eight years and previously worked in Bristol at both Winterbourne Academy and Merchant's Academy before joining Haygrove.
In her spare time, Miss Joseph has loved to dance from a very young age. This then grew to singing and finally she decided to follow qualifications in drama. Miss Joseph is currently a member of Bristol Amateur Operatic Society; the company perform musicals twice a year. It’s really important to her that she is reminded what it is like to be the ‘pupil’ as such, being directed and choregraphed, reminded of the nerves but also the joys you get from taking part in things you love to do. "Plus, I get some great ideas for the school production!" she says.
