Haygrove Science Department Hosts National Space Academy Visit
On Tuesday 18th March, Haygrove Science Department was visited by the National Space Academy.
Sixty students from Year 7 and 8 were selected to participate in an exciting range of activities, including an engaging Masterclass focused on "Life in Space". They explored the incredible life on Earth and compared it to the challenges of surviving on other planets. The students delved into propulsion systems by building their own hydrogen and oxygen rockets, which they launched across the classroom. They explored the effects of friction by constructing hovercrafts and used glowsticks to study how temperature affects the reactions in our bodies. Finally, they learned how natural selection might influence the adaptations of creatures.
As a highlight, the students had the unique opportunity to try on an authentic Soviet space helmet, touch a rock as old as our sun, and even hold a genuine piece of the moon!
It was an unforgettable day full of hands-on learning and inspiration. The students also gained valuable insight into the exciting careers within the space industry. A huge thank you to the National Space Academy for making this experience possible!
