Year 9 and 10 GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition students visit Good Food Show

The aim of the visit to the Good Food Show was to enhance students’ understanding and appreciation of the food industry. This included exploring food innovation, sustainable practices, culinary skills, and career opportunities in food and hospitality. The experience also aimed to link classroom learning with real-world applications and to inspire creativity and passion for food.

Students had the opportunity to watch celebrity chefs Si King (The Hairy Biker) and Gennaro Contaldo in action. The demonstrations offered valuable insight into professional techniques, time management, and flavour combinations.

Pupils sampled a wide range of food products from local producers. This allowed them to experience new flavours and discuss food provenance, seasonality, and sensory evaluation.

The students were enthusiastic and engaged throughout the day. Many commented on how the experience had broadened their perspective on food and potential careers in the culinary world. They particularly enjoyed the freedom to explore areas of personal interest and the opportunity to taste high-quality, artisan products.

The trip provided rich, cross-curricular learning opportunities. It helped to reinforce the importance of food education in a practical and inspiring setting. Staff noted how students demonstrated maturity and curiosity, asking thoughtful questions and representing the school extremely well.
