Haygrove School's Debating Team host competition
On Thursday, 13th February, our school hosted an exhilarating Debating Competition, where students engaged in thought-provoking discussions on two challenging motions:
-
This House believes it is the duty of the youth to care for their elders.
-
This House believes that unelected individuals should have no role in forming Government policy in a modern democracy.
Throughout the evening, students showcased remarkable articulacy, critical thinking, and persuasive skills, tackling societal issues with confidence and well-reasoned arguments. With two complex subjects, the depth and clarity of thought displayed by the students was truly commendable and hopefully will inspire the students to remain engaged in current affairs and global news.
After two compelling debates, the competition concluded with the announcement of the winners:
- Team Winners: Rehana & Zack
- Team Runners-up: Darcey & Rowan
- Individual Runner-up: Lola
- Overall Winning Speaker: Bella
A huge congratulations to all participants for their dedication and enthusiasm. We would also like to extend a special thanks to parents for their unwavering support, not only for their children but also for the school’s commitment to developing strong oracy skills. The evening was a true celebration of the power of debate and the importance of respectful argument.
We look forward to welcoming Queen's College, Taunton to Haygrove School in May!
