Year 10 Work Experience Week

Monday 5 July – Friday 9 July 2027

We are delighted to offer our Year 10 students the opportunity to undertake a week of work experience with an employer.

Work experience provides students with valuable first-hand insight into the world of work, helping them to develop important skills, explore potential career pathways and make informed decisions about their future.

Finding a Work Placement

Haygrove School subscribes to an online database of potential employers to help students find suitable work experience placements.

The database can be accessed here: Learn About Work.

Instructions on how to use the database are included in the Work Experience Guide, which is attached to this page. Students can access the database both at school and at home.

Once students have identified a suitable employer, they should contact them directly by email, letter or telephone to check whether a placement is available and find out about the application process.

Students are not restricted to employers listed on the database. We actively encourage them to approach other employers and explore opportunities that reflect their interests and future career aspirations.

Confirming a Work Placement

Once a work placement has been agreed with an employer, the relevant paperwork must be completed and returned to Student Services no later than Monday 12 April 2027.

The following forms are required:

  1. Parental Consent/Medical Form (A) – required for all students.
  2. Database Placement Form (B) – for placements with employers listed on the database.
  3. New Placement Form (C) – for placements with employers not listed on the database.

Please ensure that all the relevant forms are completed and submitted by the deadline.

All forms are attached to this page, and paper copies will also be provided to students.

Employer Requirements and Health and Safety

All work experience employers must hold valid Employers’ Liability Insurance and Public Liability Insurance for the duration of the placement.

Evidence of insurance may be requested during a visit by the Southwest Work Experience Partnership (SWEP), which carries out health and safety checks on behalf of the school.

To ensure that all placements provide a safe and appropriate working environment, students may only attend placements that have been approved by SWEP.

Richard Huish College Experience Day

On Monday 5 July 2027, we have been invited to attend the Richard Huish College Experience Day. Although this event coincides with the first day of our planned work experience week, we are pleased to offer students the opportunity to participate.

Further information about the visit will be shared during the Spring Term.

Students who wish to attend the Experience Day should be aware that their work experience placement will need to begin on Tuesday 6 July 2027.
